Caracas, Venezuela, 19 March 2017 -- The priestly ordination of the Salesian Vietnamese missionary Joseph Do Van Dung took place in the parish of Mary Help of Christians in Sarría, Caracas, Venezuela (VEN Province) on March 19, 2017. Fr. Joseph was sent as missionary ad gentes in 2009 by the Rector Major, Fr. Chavez.


Fr. Dung was ordained by the laying on of hands by Bishop José Angel Divasson Cilvetti, SDB, missionary bishop emeritus of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Ayacucho (Amazon region), where the newly ordained priest will work. The Apostolic Vicariate is located in Alto Orinoco region of Amazon and was entrusted to the Salesian Congregation in 1932. At present in the large territory of 162.000 km2 is living about 220.000 mainly indigenous population, with 167.000 faithful of numerous ethnic groups. This typical mission for the American indigenous people is a focus of the worldwide 2017 Salesian Mission Day. Numerous videos and animation materials are available.
