Region sets trend by producing a Directory of Brothers

BANGKOK: 9th November 2006 -- In what may well be a first around the Salesian world, the East Asia-Oceania SDB Region has published a Directory of all Brothers in the Region.  The publication comes just two months after the Assembly of Brothers held in Cambodia, and reflects that Assembly, at least in its cover design, but more essentially because the Assembly itself had given the indication that such a directory be produced.
One is struck by the logo that had been prepared for the Cambodian Assembly and which now dominates the directory cover: elements involving the logo of the General Administration in Rome, which is sometimes though not entirely accurately referred to as the 'Salesian logo', and a stylised representation of the 'Naga', a legendary race of reptilian beings in Cambodian folklore. The directory's aim, other than to inform, is precisely that of the Assembly itself - the Salesian promotion and care of the vocation of the Salesian Brother in the EAO Region.
Each Brother in each province or circumscription of the Region is presented with a passport sized colour photo, and basic details such as birthday, profession dates, special assignment, and contact details.  Given that many details will rapidly go out of date, the intention is obviously that this directory be a regularly updated feature of EAO life.
The directory is interspersed with colour full-page images from Salesian tradition: the 'dream', the 'two columns' dream, Francis de Sales and so on. One recognises some of the images known to visitors to Colle Don Bosco. A black and white full-page map of each province or circumscription is also included. Each page is set into a mock computer navigation menu.
The directory is largely the result of the meticulous and patient work of Fr John Lissandrin, provincial secretary in Thailand.
