Video message of Pope Francis before his visit to Myanmar
Vatican, 16 November 2017 -- The Holy Father will visit Myanmar on November 27-30, 2017, the first leg of his apostolic journey that will include Bangladesh, from November 30-December 2, 2017.
Together with the Salesian Family of Myanmar, with our Salesian, Cardinal Charles Bo and the whole Catholic community we can watch and listen to the message of Pope Francis on the YOUTUBE.
“My visit is intended to confirm the Catholic community of Myanmar in its faith in God and witness of the Gospel, which teaches the dignity of every man and woman, and demands that we open our hearts to others, especially the poorest and most in need."
Catholics – and people of all faiths – in Myanmar and Bangladesh are preparing to welcome Pope Francis on his upcoming journey, November 27-30, 2017, in Myanmar.
Salesian Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon shares: “I am very happy, excited and full of expectations for the Pope’s visit to Myanmar and Bangladesh. We need attention and encouragement. Among other things, I will speak of the situation of the Rohingya, very sad and complex, but there are also other serious humanitarian crises....I think that his visit will help heal many wounds.”
Myanmar has 659,000 Catholics. The Pope also will meet with leaders of the majority Buddhist religion and other faith groups.
The Salesian Family of Don Bosco is present in Myanmar since 1939 with the arrival of the first SDB missionaries. At present the Vice-province of Myanmar has 81 professed Salesians working in 8 local communities for the poor youth, with 15 SDB students studying abroad in Manila, Jerusalem and Melbourne as well with one missionary ad gentes in Africa - South Sudan. All Salesian Educative and Pastoral communities are praying for the fruitful pastoral visit of the Successor of Peter with they youth and lay mission partners.
