Four Vietnamese Missionaries ordained in Nairobi
Nairobi, Kenya, 19 May 2018 -- In a solemn four hour long ceremony, 8 deacons (7 SDBs and one FSN Congregation) were ordained priests and 13 Salesian students of Utume theologicum were ordained deacons by his David Kamau, the Auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. The Eucharist celebration took place in the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians Upperhill, Nairobi - Kenya on May 19, 2018.
The candidates were presented by Fr. Simon Asira, the provincial of Eastern Africa (AFE). Also present during the occasion were Fr. Michael Karikunnel, provincial of West Africa (AFW), Fr. Mario Robustellini , provincial economer of Ethiopia (AET) and Fr. Vincent Tembo, vice provincial of Zambia-Zimbabwe-Namibia-Malawi (ZMB) - the Superiors of the 21 newly ordained deacons and priests.
Addressing the newly ordained priests and deacons, the Bishop highlighted the significance of the holy orders. He said that to be a priest or a deacon is a call to service at the altar, service to the poor and service in the Church as Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the sons of St. Anne (FSN). He particularly reminded the newly ordained: "Believe what you read; teach what you believe and practice what you teach."
The liturgical committee that oversaw this function was specially thanked along with the parish priest and the parish community for the beautiful way the whole event was organized. The singing was done by Don Bosco Upperhill choir.
This joyful occasion brought together not only the family of newly ordained missionary Fr. Thomas Huan, but also many other Vietnamese missionaries from different parts of Africa who are students in Nairobi or represented the respective provinces at the ordination.
