Port Moresby, PNG, 6 November 2017 -- Rectors, commission heads and representatives of confreres gathered together in the PGS Provincial House, Boroko for the second part of the Assembly of Confreres. It commenced on the 6th November and concluded on the 10th November. 14 Salesian confreres were part of the experience which included two local Salesians.

The Provincial, Fr. Alfred Maravilla, opened the gathering presenting his report on the state of the Vice Province. "This Assembly of Confreres", he said, "is the point of convergence of a listening process which begun with listening to the reflections of the communities, listening to the Rectors and Provincial Councillors". He underlined that the work of the Assembly of Confreres is to "interpret this situation by going beyond the surface and appearances to understand the root causes" in view of finalizing the OPP (Overall Province Plan).

Building on the work done during the first part of the Assembly, the final version of the renewed Vision-Mission, the OPP, the Directory for the new Vice Province and the Province SEPP were approved.

Reading through these documents one can notice very clearly the decisive orientation of the whole PGS to be a Vice Province that is truly outgoing and missionary, where confreres who are visibly poor live in happy intercultural communities where there is financial transparency and accountability.

“The Assembly of Confreres has been a rich experience for me. The sharing of experiences of our current work, reflecting on it and projecting it into the future basing ourselves on the Spirit of Don Bosco, the documents of the Congregation and our cultural experience, will help each of us Salesians, live our missionary vocation fully”, said Fr Isidore Maramun sdb, now assigned to Henderson, Solomon Islands.
