Salesian Cooperators World Council handover

ROME: 11th December 2009 --  The Salesian Cooperators' World Council, the chief administrative and animating body at international level for this branch of the Salesian Family is currently meeting in Rome. Juan Carlos Escobar (more commonly known simply as Carlos Escobar) from Australia-Pacific is the new Regional Councillor for the East Asia Region as it is known in Cooperator terms, though it embraces much the same geographical area as the Salesian EAO Region.
The meeting is essentially to facilitate transition since the re-organisation of a number of SC regions and the election of new regional councillors.  Part of the task is to put forward a 'ternary' of three names t the Rector Major for his consideration for appointment of a new World Coordinator.
The next World Congress is due in 2012 and this current meeting is already considering its key topics as well as gathering proposals and suggestions regarding the definitive approval of the Project of Apostolic Life which is currently 'ad experimentum'.
Today, 11th December, also sees a meeting of the three General Councils: SDB, FMA and SC

Behind the news:
Anybody following the intense discussions that are going on at the moment between the Vatican and the Holy See, in Rome, with a delegation led by the Israeli Foreign Minister (to discuss a whole raft of issues concerning property and other crucial financial issues, given the degree of Catholic and Vatican involvement in the Holy Land) would be interested to know that Salesian Fr Gianni Caputa is in the thick of these discussions.  He has been involved at this level of international diplomacy now for many years and was one of the architects of an historic accord that was signed in the parlour of what is now the Studium Theologicum Salesianum, Ratisbonne in December 1993 in the presence of Archbishop Celli (now heading up the Pontifical Council for Social Communications) and Dr Yosi Beilin of the Israeli Government. The accord established full diplomatic relations between the two States at the level of Nunciature and Embassy respectively.
