Vietnam holds mini-congress to mark 11th anniversary of Fr Majcen's death

Xuan Hiep: 2 October 2010
-- September 30, 2010, Fr Andrej Majcen would have celebrated his 106th birthday, but as indicated in the previous edition of this e-letter, it might also be noted as the 11th anniversary of his heavenly birthday, as we humans understand it, and as is customary in Vietnamese tradition for all those who have died (therefore not to be confused with any special veneration 'beyond the limits' so to speak), the incensations and talks which took place in his honour at Xuan Hiep, Thu Duc, Vietname, were a mark of respect, noting especially the opening of the Diocesan Inquiry process in his native country, Slovenia.
In fact, the Salesians in Vietnam held a mini-Congress in his honour on 30 September. Fr Dominic Uyen, his first novice of 1960-1961, gave a speech about his life, in which he stressed his spirit of joy and working with others, his “aggiornamento” (he was up with the times), his “con Don Bosco e coi tempi” (while remaining faithful to Don Bosco), and in particular his charismatic dimension as founder of the Salesian works in Viet Nam.
The Rector of the community presented the life of Fr Andrej Majcen, from his childhood till his last days in Slovenia, with some particular emphasis on the period of his life and work in the Viet Nam he loved so much.
With songs and through active participation, all confreres of the Community expressed their love and their desire to follow Don Bosco in the footsteps of the Servant of God : “Imitate me as I imitate Don Bosco”.
To conclude the mini-congress, the Community said a prayer asking the Servant  of God to intercede for Brother Peter Sang, who is suffering cancer of the bowel.
