EAO Good Night Talk (28)

Year of Mercy – what fruits do we harvest?

Dear friends and confreres,

The Year of Mercy entered already its second half, most of us have already passed through the Holy Door in our diocese cathedral or in some important shrine. Many were surprised with the creativity of Gizo (Solomon Islands) bishop to bring by boat the Holy Door even to the remote islands.  Now we can ask: What are the fruits of this Jubilee?

One month ago I have returned again to Rome again and was able to pray already three times in the Vatican Basilica of Saint Peters. Every time when I’m passing through the Jubilee Year Holy Door I’m touched by very suggestive image of Jesus washing the feet of Peter and other disciples (John13 - photo). And Jesus keeps on inviting us: ‘You also must wash one another’s feet. I have given you an example…” During our present joint spiritual retreat (SDB + FMA general councils), I ponder again on this deep invitation of Pope Francis: “I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ… I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. Now is the time to say to Jesus: ‘Lord… I need you. Save me once again. Lord, take me once more into your redeeming embrace!” Apostolic Exhortation ‘The Joy of the Gospel’

How I wish all of us will always be firmly rooted in the conviction, that it is God who takes always the first initiative: ‘He has loved us first’ - and our whole life is just a reply to his boundless Mercy! Indeed our God is kneeling in front of each of us!

I wish you a fruitful month of July! For many of us it will be a busy summer time, full of youth pastoral activities, for few of us it will be also a participation in the World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow and still for some a good chance for conversion in the retreat.

Thanks Fr for the beautiful and very reflective message.
Our school is having a Religious Education day in August. Each class is having a parable of Mercy to reflect on and then dramatise it. Each class has a Holy Door in their classrooms, plus other rooms of the school...e.g. canteen, library, office etc. We will highlight in September with a Mass and a pilgrimage to the Cathedral in Apia...Holy Door. Then we will go and visit the Home for the Aged, bringing gifts and entertainments to entertain the old people of our country. Thanks for sharing your Good night talks with us. God bless!

Thank you for your e-mail = Good Night Talk

I am thinking about the same thing, actually because I will visit Rome as a member of VIDES, which is an voluntary institute of FMA, Salesian sisters' group. I am going to make a short presentation about the fruits of pastoral activities in Japan. I suppose there will be many people who are related to the Salesian Family.
It will be the first time to visit the main institution of Salesian in Rome.

The image of Jesus kneeling down to the apostles is the symbol of humble heart, which is necessary for us to lead a life as a Christian with faith toward Jesus.

In this modern world we don't have the time to think deeply because we can always send any messages wherever we want because we have the convenient media tool in any places. But the time for thinking except ourselves is the time to think about the supernatural thing and to be humble toward it. It is the time to think about God and the son of God, Jesus.

It is very difficult for us in this modern world but we have to challenge the task. This challenge will truly be a pastoral world in this time.

May God always help you and thanks again for your e-mail which inspire me
