Bangkok, Thailand, 15 November 2018 -- From 12 to 17 November the General Councillor for the Missions, Fr Guillermo Basanes, is visiting the SDBs and Salesian Family in Thailand, followed by 2 days in Laos and 4 days in Cambodia. From November 20-22 Fr Guillermo will take part in the annual meeting of EAO mission animation delegates in Sihakounville, Cambodia.

The journey started out from Bangkok provincial house and Pakkred Centre for the Blind, then followed on to southern Thailand in the Surat Thani diocese, celebrating the 50th anniversary of foundation there. The main focus of the visit is to get to know the history and current circumstances of our mission - through the visit to Bangsak Don Bosco Home and Phanom Parish. Fr Guillermo was happy to participate in the pastoral gathering of the Surat Thani diocese (Bishop Joseph Prathan, SDB) with a significant presence of many Salesians, SIHM sisters and Salesian Cooperators. He is being accompanied on his journey by Fr John Bosco Theparat (THA provincial), the SC delegate and other confreres.

Over the next few days the General Councillor for the Missions (a former Argentinian missionary in Angola and Regional Councillor for Africa-Madagascar Region) will continue his animation visit by going to Chiang Mai (northern Thailand) and Vientiane (Laos). AustraLasia readers can follow the details of the visit on the Facebook pages of the THA SDB province (https://www.facebook.com/SalesianThailand).

Over the past five years Fr Basanes has already visited the following countries of our region: Mongolia, Korea, China, Myanmar, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Timor Leste and Malaysia. We pray that his animation visit will enkindle more missionary fire in the hearts of Salesians and Salesian Family members in our provinces!
