Rector Major's visit to Japan (4)

By Fr Michael Lap, SDB

Tokyo, Japan, 10 November 2018 -- Flying back to Tokyo from Miyazaki in the evening, the Rector Major visited the Provincial House of the Japan Province (GIA). He greeted the confreres in the community and the lay people who work for the province in the humble Provincial House. They relaxed after a long day over a delicious dinner. He then toured around the Provincial House, also visiting the Shipping Department of Don Bosco Press in Japan in the floor below, where he left a written message on a wall.

In Miyazaki, The Rector Major visited the Mother House community of the Caritas Sisters of Jesus, where their International Congress happened to coincide in the same place with the visit of the Rector Major. He was welcomed by the sisters who had attended said event from various countries. The sisters manifested Japanese hospitality by preparing traditional Japanese cuisine and presenting some songs to the Rector Major. Two Salesian Missionaries to Japan also offered songs of felicitation to the Rector Major. The Rector Major reciprocated the hospitality extended by offering a song for people who had gathered.

On the morning of 10 November the Provincial Councillors gathered at Chofu Formation House to extend warm greetings to the Rector Major. The event started with a celebration of the Eucharist at which Fr Hamaguchi, SDB, the Provincial, presided- The homily was delivered by the Rector Major offering recommendations to the young Salesian aspirants from Yokkaichi (Junior Aspirantate) and Chofu (Senior Aspirantate) to be faithful and generous in serving young people which is the crux of discerning a Salesian vocation.
