Fr. Joseph NG Chi Yuen appointed as 15th Provincial of CIN

RMG, 11 June 2018 -- After the consultation for the new CIN Provincial the Rector Major with the consent of his council appointed on 8th June 2017 as the 15th Provincial of China, Fr Joseph NG Chi Yuen for the period of 6 years (2018-2024).

Fr Joseph NG was born in Hong Kong on September 12, 1955 and joined the Salesian Novitiate in 1980-1981 (Hong Kong), made his first profession on July 16, 1981 and the perpetual profession on July 12, 1987 in Hong Kong. After his ordination in 1989 he spent long time in Taiwan 1991 – 2005 in all three houses – Tainan, Chao Chou (Rector and Novicemaster) and Taipei. During that period (1992-1995) also studied sociology in USA (Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles). After his Taiwan mission returned to his native Hong Kong to continue his formation ministry also as Rector of the Salesian House of Studies (2012-2015) always closed to the young confreres – both Chinese and missionaries. At the province level he served as provincial councilor (2012-2016) and provincial economer until now (2016-2018).

The new provincial speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English and his long experience in formation, parish, school and social work will help him to accompany well the 112 confreres who are involved in variety of mission for the young people of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. From the day of his ordination Fr. Joseph has chosen the Gospel verse 'Do whatever He tells you' (John 2,5) as his life-motto.

Within the EAO Region we congratulate the China Province confreres to their 15th Provincial, promise our prayers and entrust his future 6 year period ministry to the protection and guidance of Mary Help of Christians, the Patroness of China and of our Mother Province.

In the same time we express our gratitude for the enthusiastic, faithful and total dedication to the animating service of Fr. Lanfranco Fedrigotti, who is finishing his term. He leaves the province with a strong spiritual push for a personal conversion of each confrere and for tireless effort to attract more missionaries for the ageing provincial community. Profession of Faith of the new Provincial will take place on Saturday, 23 June, 2018, during the Eucharist celebration in Salesian Missionary House, Hong Kong.
