Fr Manuel Fraile's two books

By SS Secretariat

Dili, Timor Leste, 10 August 2017 -- Two new books have been newly published in Dili (ITM) on the local salesian history: Don Bosco em Timor Leste- Segunda Etapa, and Santo Desconhecido, O Irmão José Kusý, SDB.

The first offers the result of Fr. Manuel Fraile’s patient historical research on the second phase (1946-1975) of the salesian presence in this EAO island. It contains a brief story of the work of the salesian missionaries sent from Portugal until the end of that colonial period. A study of te first phase (1927-19290) had appeared earlier, authored by Fr. Amador dos Anjos SDB, including some references to future salesian martyr St. Callistus Caravário, at the time a young cleric in practical training.

The second book is our local version of Fr. Peter Kuchárd, SDB, who came some years ago from Slovaquia as a journalist to gather materials for a biography of his connational, our saintly Salesian Brother Josef Kusý (1909-2002), who spent the last 56 years of his life in this land as a missionary ad vitam, without ever “turning back” (returning home).

Both books, our contribution to salesian historiography in the EAO Region, are initially published in Portuguese, the country’s official language, carefuly adited by our old time portuguese missionary Deacon Baltasar Pires, SDB. And they will be offered as a welcome gift to our Rector Major when he comes to visit us next Don Bosco feastday 2018.
