Fr. Fortunato Giacomin:
Born at Fonsaso (Belluno – Italy) on 3 January 1920, comes to India in 1936, makes his first profession at Bandel on 8 December 1937. In February 1940 he leaves for Burma. He is ordained a priest at Dehra Dun Concentration Camp on 20 September 1945. In December 1945 he leaves the Concentration Camp and returns to Burma and there he remains till the end of his life. He dies on 7 February 2000 .
In Father Giacomin the delegation of Burma loses a valiant missionary, who sacrifices everything for the sake of the Salesian Mission in Burma. He keeps the Salesian dream alive in Burma when everything seems lost. He works in different roles for many years (not continually) at Mandalay, Lafon Memorial School. He is Rector and parish priest at Thyngangyum, In 1965 he is the founder Rector of St. Joseph's Studentate at Anisakan, where he continues till the end of his life fulfilling various roles as need arises. When 8 of the foreign Salesians are expelled in 1966, only Fr. Giacomin and Fr. James Bertolino escape the expulsion order. Later on, however, Fr. Bertolino returns to Italy due to ill health. Thus Fr. Giacomin becomes the main link with the beginnings of Salesian works in Burma and with the outside Salesian world. Till 1975 he is Rector, teacher, inspirer, spiritual guide.
In the later years of his life at Anisakan he is teacher, confessor and spiritual director. He is intelligent, dedicated to his work, a man of prayer and an example to all of living the Salesian motto, "Work and Temperance." He is constantly inculcating to all with his example and with his insistence in season and out of season Salesian values, such as, love for Don Bosco and the Congregation, faithful observance of the Constitutions, the practice of the Preventive System and Salesian assistance
