'+Description+': In his 100p-c Desramaut explores first the thinking of St Francis of Sales on 'true friendships', then the many personal friendships of Don Bosco as a boy, as a priest ... nearly always tinged with a concern for the salvation of the other's soul as in the case of Jonah, for example. In the Life of Dominic Savio we see Don Bosco highlighting important friendships. We have little doubt of the importance of 'friendship', then, in the preventive system in action at the Oratory. Then comes a long period in Salesian tradition when 'friendship' takes on much more negative connotations. Our social context no longer permits us to use the kind of language Francis of Sales used, not even that of Don Bosco, but 'friendship' remains essential to the preventive system, a legitimate sympathy full of affection, without scandal, as Fr Vecchi once put it ('La vie fraternelle en communauteé' Paris December 1997)

'+Context (examples of use)+': In an atmosphere of brotherly friendship we share our joys and sorrows and we are partners in our apostolic plans and experiences. (C. 51)

(:zapend:) (:zapform key=Type:) '''Term type''' ('EntryTerm' ''if no other applies)'' (1) (2) [Initialisms like AGC are regarded as acronyms; a term like 'Bro.' is an abbreviation; an example of short form instead would be the main part of a very long book title (most of DB's book titles! 'Giovane Provveduto' is a short form). A loan term is not translated whereas a calque is. A blend is where two (or more) morphemes or 'word' parts have been combined to form a single term, as in the case of 'austraLasia'.
