Don Bosco Prize awarded for the first year
HONG KONG  29 August 2012 --   Emulating the international Nobel Prize, the Salesian Family of the China Province has recently established for its secondary schools a Don Bosco Prize. In memory of Don Bosco’s relic coming to China in 2011, of the 150th Anniversary of the Founding of the Salesian Society, and in anticipation of the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Don Bosco, the Salesian China Province, in conjunction with the Louis Leung Education Foundation, has established the Don Bosco Prize, which will be awarded each year to the best students of Salesian Family secondary school in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, so as to enshrine Don Bosco’s loving care for youth, and to encourage students to imitate his selfless spirit of service.

This year therefore, each secondary school of the Salesian Family has nominated 3 of its best students, not only are they excellent in academic studies and conduct, possessing the spirit service, they are also inspired by Don Bosco, keen to follow Don Bosco’s virtues and charism.

Altogether more than 30 students were nominated, from whom 5 were selected for the 1st year Don Bosco Prize. They would receive a respectable sum of scholarship from the Louis Leung Education Foundation, and a nice certificate signed by our Rector Major, Very Reverend Fr. Pascual Chavez Villanueva, which would be a very precious and memorable gift indeed.

This year, the Don Bosco Prize was distributed to students on 16th August, during the festival dinner which honored the jubilarians and the cleric who took his perpetual vow. The prize recipients were elated and felt very much encouraged. Our Rector Major and Mr. Louis Leung hope that this prize can even be promoted to the whole Salesian EAO Region, if the funding is available from the Foundation.
