Korean teachers visit Europe

SEOUL: 19 September 2011 -- Twelve teachers from Seoul Comprehensive Vocational School in Korea are visiting Europe currently (
15-25 September) with Fr Mose Yoon sdb. The primary purpose is to see a number of vocational schools in action in the Czech Republic, Austria and Italy. The group has included several Salesian vocational schools amongst those they are observing, especially Borgo Ragazzi Don Bosco and Gerini in Rome.
    The Seoul Comprehensive Vocational School has been administered by the Salesians since 1999, when it was entrusted to them by the Seoul City Council. It has 1200 students and offers 14 major subject areas including architecture, interior design, furniture design, environmental systems, welding, web design, network server operation, computer mechanics, vehicle maintenance, cooking, fashion design. There are five full time Salesians involved in the school. The Rector and Principal is Fr Benjamin Kim sdb.
    As of this year the school has commenced a foreign student project involving thirty students per year, each from different countries (such as Mongolia, Butan, Mexico, Sudan).
    The school's management has the support of local government with free education for all, and each student is given some $200 monthly by way of a scholarship. The foreign students are offered free accommodation and meals.
